Welcome to AfCEM2022
On behalf of the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM) and the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana (EMSOG), it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 6th African Conference on Emergency Medicine to be organized in Accra, Ghana from 16TH to 18TH November, 2022.
Emergencies and disasters have a profound health effect normally leading to an increase in morbidity and mortality, especially in low and middle-income countries. Emergency medicine in Ghana has seen some growth over the last thirteen years with many milestones reached amidst multiple challenges and the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana (EMSOG) was formed with the aim of increasing the quality of emergency care in Ghana in November 2019. Since its inception, the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana has impacted knowledge and helped improve the skills of its members who are made up of Emergency Physicians, Emergency Nurses, Emergency Medicine Technicians and all other health-related professionals both local and international, with an interest in emergency care. This has been achieved through various training workshops and its maiden conference held in November 2019. The impact of this acquired knowledge by the members has positively reflected in the case management and overall mitigation of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
The African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM), founded in November 2009, represents a broad coalition of national societies, organisations, and individuals from over 40 countries dedicated to securing high-quality emergency care across Africa. The biennial African Conference on Emergency Medicine (AfCEM) is the only scientific conference that brings together stakeholders in African emergency care from across Africa and the world. Previous conferences have been held in Kenya 2020, Rwanda 2018, Egypt 2016 Ethiopia 2014 with the maiden conference held in Ghana in 2012 After 10 years, it is our greatest honor to welcome you back to Ghana for the 6th Conference where it all began.
