INTRODUCTION

On 28th May 2019 at the Seventy-Second World Health Assembly, there was a call for near-term additional efforts globally to strengthen the provision of emergency care as part of universal health coverage so as to ensure the timely and effective delivery of life-saving health care services to those in need.  Full World Health Assembly Resolution 72.16

The Africa Health Minister’s Meeting on Emergency Care is a meeting that will comprise health ministers from across the continent. This will be the first of such gatherings to discuss ways of helping achieve universal health coverage using emergency care systems.

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of this meeting is:
● Revisit the resolution to strengthen the provision of emergency care as part of Universal Health Coverage.
● To discuss the practices and challenges in emergency care delivery in various countries.
● To look at practical solutions to achieving the targets that were set for achieving universal health coverage using emergency care systems. 
● Explore the WHO Emergency Care Toolkit that will support the achievement of the resolution.

Proposed Date: 16th November 2022, after the conference opening ceremony.

INVITATION AND PARTNERSHIP 

This is an open invitation to all Health Ministries in Africa, Funders and Operational Partners to be part of the historic meeting.

Simulation Wars (SIMWARS) is a medical simulation competition between teams of clinical providers who compete in various aspects of patient care in front of a large audience. SIMWARS, however, goes beyond competition; it is an all-encompassing, thrilling experience that improves medical knowledge and demonstrates the value of teamwork and communication. There will be a simulation war among 8 African countries under AFEM as part of the special activities at the upcoming AfCEM conference.

This will take place on 17th November 2022 from 7 am to 10 am.

Each country will have a team of at most 6 members, consisting of not more than one emergency medicine specialist, at least one nurse, pre-hospital staff (optional), and residents. There will be 8 stations comprising: Triage, BLS, ACLS, ATLS, Toxicology, Disaster medicine, Paediatric emergency (PALS), and Ultrasound.
