Africa Health Ministers' Meeting on Emergency Care
INTRODUCTION
On 28th May 2019 at the Seventy-Second World Health Assembly, there was a call for near-term additional efforts globally to strengthen the provision of emergency care as part of universal health coverage so as to ensure the timely and effective delivery of life-saving health care services to those in need. Full World Health Assembly Resolution 72.16
The Africa Health Minister’s Meeting on Emergency Care is a meeting that will comprise health ministers from across the continent. This will be the first of such gatherings to discuss ways of helping achieve universal health coverage using emergency care systems.
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this meeting is:
● Revisit the resolution to strengthen the provision of emergency care as part of Universal Health Coverage.
● To discuss the practices and challenges in emergency care delivery in various countries.
● To look at practical solutions to achieving the targets that were set for achieving universal health coverage using emergency care systems.
● Explore the WHO Emergency Care Toolkit that will support the achievement of the resolution.
Proposed Date: 16th November 2022, after the conference opening ceremony.
